Homily: November 14, 2025, Friday of the Thirty-Third Week in Ordinary Time (End-time)

“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; they were eating and drinking.”

As we near the end of the liturgical year, the readings also begin to focus on end times. Jesus reminds us that the end times will be unannounced, there will be no advanced notice, it could happen anytime, when people could still be “eating and drinking” making a reference to people who are oblivious to the presence of God, ignorant to the truth and who reject Jesus. They are the ones who will be caught off-guard and in shock.

Whereas for people who have faith, who believe and are following Jesus through the teachings of the church, will know that while no one knows when, the warning signs have been given in the Bible. Jesus has described the signs that will precede the end times: wars, divisions among families, and cosmic changes in the sun, moon, and stars.

Taken together, these remind us that the world will not last forever and that we must always be prepared. Looking at the state of affairs of the world, we pray that this final day will not come so soon, because too many people in the world will be thrown into great shock, too many will fail the final judgement. But if it does happen soon, those who believe in God and live faithfully have nothing to fear.

The key is this: to know God and to follow Jesus closely in His way of life. In the first reading, the author of the Book of Wisdom invites us to look around and see the beauty of creation. All of creation, the vastness of the universe, the brilliance of nature, all point us to the Creator.

Whenever I look at the beauty of nature, I am fascinated by the greatness and intelligence of the God who made it. For this God, nothing is impossible, and this same God is the most creative, the most powerful. And He loves us, His most prized creation.

So let us not slack in doing His will and in carrying out His work on earth. Then, when that final day comes, we will be delighted to see Him and hear Him calling us:

“Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

Amen.
