Homily: December 6, 2022, Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent.

“Though the grass withers and the flower wilts, the word of our God stands forever."

This was one of my favorite Bible phrases for some time in the past, and then it was forgotten. While preparing for this homily, it again touched and inspired me.

Do you also have a favorite verse or phrase from the Bible?

Is there a book of the Bible which you like to read over, and over again?

Has any word or phrase in the Bible helped you in life and gave you hope?

Did you memorize any verse from the Bible to deepen your faith?

Do you feel God speaking to you through the Bible?

My last question to you, do you even read the Bible?

The Bible, the word of God, contains the truths of this life and the life eternal.  It is an interesting book, in a profound way. God’s word was written by more than 40 different authors, inspired and guided by the Holy Spirit, over a period of thirteen centuries.

From a secular point of view, the Bible is a massive compilation of historical, theological, philosophical, poetic and prophetic writings. Even if we just consider it a history book, there is probably no other book in the world which has chronologically and continually recorded the history of the world as the bible does. And it has been translated into one thousand two hundred and forty-eight (1,248) different languages. These facts alone are amazing.

But how many of us are actually interested enough to read it regularly?

Recently a friend told me that after having watched the TV series ‘The Chosen’, he was very motivated to read the Bible. He began reading the New Testament, starting from the Gospel of Matthew. And that is a good way to start.

Reading the Bible on your own might not be very easy, but if someone breaks the Word for you, it can be more relatable. I enjoy attending good Bible study sessions, I always learn something new and discover some deeper insights. There is always something about the Bible which I do not yet know.

It has inspired millions of people, and will continue to inspire, if only more people pick it up and read.

Believe it, God’s word is everlasting. Experience it, God’s word is inspirational. Open it and read.
