Homily: May 28, 2025, Wednesday of the sixth week of Easter.

(Holy family School Mass) In today’s Gospel, Jesus says something very interesting to His disciples. He says, “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you to all truth.”

Do you know what Jesus is trying to tell His disciples and us?

He is really saying that there is so many, many things that He wants to teach all of us, but right now, we are just not ready for all of it.

Why?

Because we will not be able to understand it all.

But He continues to assure His disciples and us, not to worry because He is going to send someone to help us understand it all.

Who is that someone? That’s right, the Holy Spirit!

Do you know when did the disciples receive the Holy Spirit?

They received the Holy Spirit on a very special day we call “Pentecost”. It sounds like a big word. Can you say that with me? Pen-te-cost.

Very good!

And do you know what happened to the disciples when they received the Holy Spirit?

Their hearts were filled with deep deep joy, they understood everything that Jesus has taught them and even more!! And what is most amazing was that they became very, very courageous and brave!

Before Pentecost, they were all hiding and afraid. But after receiving the Holy Spirit, they went out of their hiding place and began talking to everyone about Jesus, proudly, confidently and bravely.

Guess what? This same Holy Spirit came to each one of us when we were baptized! That means you and I have the Holy Spirit in us right now. The Holy Spirit helps us to be strong, fearless and faithful, to do what is right, and to live like Jesus’ disciples. In fact, the Holy Spirit helps us to live like Jesus Himself.

And that’s not the only gift Jesus gave us. Do you know what else? Yes! The Eucharist, Holy Communion.

When we receive Holy Communion, we receive Jesus’ Body and Blood. It means Jesus comes into our hearts directly. Jesus becomes part of us, and we become a part of Jesus.

Today we are especially happy for our second graders who have received their First Holy Communion these past weeks. And we’re praying that each time you receive Jesus, you will grow stronger, kinder, and more loving, just like Him.

So children, today let’s thank Jesus for two amazing gifts: The Holy Spirit, who is always with us, and Holy Communion, Jesus’ Body and Blood.

Let’s ask Jesus to help us love Him more and to follow Him every day with joyful and brave hearts.

Amen!
